How to Know You Are an eBay Addict

I just got back from the hospital. I was visiting my mother who had slipped and fallen while she was walking the dogs this morning. My dad and I helped her into the car in order to go to the emergency room and find out why her ankle was in so much pain. She broke her ankle in two places and is currently awaiting surgery.

Now for a little background. My mom was introduced to eBay about a year or so ago, and now it's like the grocery store for her. If milk were sold on eBay for cheaper than she could get it at Kroger, mom would buy it online. Do you need something sold on eBay? Mom does that too. I will sometimes walk into my room and find things missing only to find out later that mom sold it on eBay. “You mean that old text-book? You weren't really ever going to use that again, were you?” But it's been good though. The text-books that I couldn't sell back at the book store can still be sold on eBay which is a plus.

When I went into the hospital tonight to see how my mom was doing, my dad and grandma where already in the room with my mom who was propped up in the Tempur-Pedic hospital bed. The doctors had drugged her up pretty good, so she was starting to get a little drowsy. We were all around the bed talking about whatever when mom looked at me with her eyes half-open and in a weak voice uttered, “Oh, and Sam... this morning... I was looking at a suitcase on eBay... it was a great deal... and copper color too, so it will stand out... I really don't want to miss this auction if I can get it that cheap... when you go back home can you look it up for me... and buy it if it's still cheap?” I couldn't help but to burst into laughter. Here's my mom, in pain at the hospital and she is worried about losing an eBay auction. Mom, you know I love you. :)

This just in – as soon as I finished typing that last paragraph my mom called from her hospital bed. Let me rehash the first few words of the conversation for you:

Me: Hello?
Mom: Hey honey, whatcha doin'?
Me: Just writing an entry about you.
Mom: Oh. Can you check eBay for me?

HAHA! She didn't even ask me what I was writing about! (Although, I think she might have been able to guess.)
