Sorry I haven't updated. I had some more good stories from Europe, but I am too tired right now to type them all out. I apologize for my lethargy. What has happened since Germany that is significant and worthy of an update? Lots in fact. Am I going to write about them? Perhaps... but I don't think I will right now. I am too busy being paranoid.
Why? You ask. Well, around 7:30AM this morning, four tables in various databases on my server simultaneously crashed thus prompting an error message on three different sites including this one. After repairing the tables, I logged into my box to investigate what went wrong. I typed in a common Linux command (locate) and I got an “Input/Output Error.” That should NEVER happen. Later on it started randomly working again, but I am so paranoid that my server was compromised that I am taking drastic security measures. If a hacker were to have compromised my machine (AGAIN!) I believe the hole in the security would have been my home PC where I use the popular “Windows XP,” aka “The dart-board of the digital world.”
If you haven't done so, read David's post on why I have valid reasons to be paranoid about security right now. I have almost made a final decision to switch, not to a Mac, but to Linux – Ubuntu Linux. Apparently, Ubuntu does not have the stereotypes of being extremely complicated like most Linux distros.
So anyways, I just finished backing up almost 3GB of data from my server. Now it's time for some spring cleaning and checking the locks on the doors. I might just tare the whole house down and build again on some new land. (That, of course was a metaphor for formatting my hard drive and possibly buying a new one.)
Ok, enough nerd talk. When I lose some of my apathy, I will post some more interesting updates that make since to the larger audience as a whole... but before that I may post some of my frustrations with CSS positioning...
